Streaming on the beach

I subscribed to a fast mobile data package with Elisa: unlimited data transfer up to 384 kbs for a fixed monthly fee of 29 €. That makes me want to try and utilize the data packet anywhere I can. Must admit, streaming the latest news & other current affairs programming on a remote beach is not bad value for that money.

I haven't gotten into much video yet. Have given the spodradio application a run once or twice and listened to the Businessweek Cutting Edge and Technology and you - podcasts on their mobile podcasting service. Not too bad. The user experience does not beat the iPod, though.

Operators in Finland started pushing 3G devices & subscriptions this April. The service packets typically combine a deal on phone calls and text messaging, but a flat rate data package has to be especially asked for and first they'll offer you a deal costing you 4 € per every 25 MB moved.

I believe mobile broadband will be a relevant service for at least some of those who pay their own phone bills in time. I suspect we'll be needing some pretty hot music content for that to become attractive enough, though. The devices are there, and so is the content - now we need affordable rates for everyone and their dog to start getting hooked.
