Harvard Law Schoolin professori Charles Nesson pitää tänä syksynä verkkokurssin verkkoväittelystä tyttärensä Rebecca Nessonin kanssa.

Kurssi Cyber One: Law in the Court of Public Opinion järjestetään keinomaailma Second Lifessa ja harjoitustehtävät tehdään blogeissa, podcasteissa, webcasteissa ja muilla uuden internetin mahdollistamilla välineillä.

Tarkoitus on kokeilemalla oppia, miten oma mielipide argumentoidaan uusissa mediatiloissa rakentavasti:

"Our premise is that “First World” and corporate domination of entertainment media, laws, and news can be balanced by the voices of individuals, groups and universities who use new media intelligently. We challenge students to attempt this themselves by choosing an issue of concern to them and using the media we study to make their case for change in the court of public opinion."

Tapahtumien järjestäminen Second Life -maailmassa alkaa olla jo yleistä. Esimerkiksi elokuussa Helsingissä TransVision2006 - konferenssi salli etäosallistumisen, jossa oli käytössä useita eri teknologioita: Second Life - alusta, IRC, Skype, Skypen videokonferenssi, webcast, ja powerpoint - esitykset verkossa ja Second Lifen sisällä. Noin 40 osallistui konferenssiin verkossa katsoen esityksiä suorana videolta. He saattoivat tehdä kysymyksiä pelin sisäisellä chatillä, josta kysymykset kääntyivät edelleen konferenssin IRC-kanavalle. Tapahtuma oli järjestäjien mukaan onnistunut:

"On the one hand, the virtual TransVision 2006 conference gave the possibility to "attend" the conference in virtual reality to many people who were not able to attend the conference in brickspace and, on the other hand, it demonstrated the potential of virtual reality and Second Life for major conferences and events. The lessons learned will be used to design other, even more ambitious, mixed-reality and VR-only events".
