On demand - videoportaali Youtube.comista on reilussa vuodessa tullut netin suosituimpia saitteja 25 miljoonan päiväkävijämäärällä, kertoo BBC (Click Online: The viral video online revolution).
"David Moore, from Getdemocracy.com, says: "I think what's happening is that there's a genuine movement where TV and video is shifting from a top-down medium, to a medium that's entirely from the bottom up, where everyone is able to, say, create a local news channel, or to publish video of their family reunion online easily."
Tuoreimmassa Wiredissakin on juttua ilmiöstä:
"What's happening here isn't just TV online. Gone are the rigid 30- and 60-minute blocks; now the clip is it - be it 30 seconds or eight minutes, we're watching only the money shots. Gone is top-down broadcasting; instead, the network has been, well, networked, with thousands of creators and places to watch, from single-serving sites like Rocketboom to slick aggregators like iTunes and blinkx (Wired 14.05:A Guide to the Online Video Explosion).
Googlen Peter Chane kertoo hakukonefirmasta mediataloksi muuttuneen työnantajansa aikomuksista: "We're trying to create a platform for the world's video to live on the Web. I think it would be pretty amazing to be able to access all of it, and search and customize and personalize it" (Wired 14.05: Are You Ready for Googlevision?).
Perässä tullaan Suomessakin. Digi-TV:n viidennen kanavanipun toimiluvanhakijoista ainakin Citizen TV Oy ja Vizor viittaavat käyttäjien luomaan sisältöön ja vuorovaikutteisuuteen toiminta-ajatuksessaan (Markkinointi ja Mainonta 18-2006: Tahtoo telkkariin). Elokuvantekijöillehän on jo Pixoff.

Suomessakin tosiaan liikutaan
Suomessahan myös Maxinetin (mm. iptv) ja Riemurasian (video/viihdeportaali) yhteistyöstä kerrottiin joku aika takaperin.
Tekijänoikeuskysymyksethän näissä tosin voivat olla aika mielenkiintoisia. Käyttäjien itse luoma sisältö - ok, käyttäjien netistä/muualta filtteröimä sisältö - vieläkin ok?

Youtube hoitaa homman näin: "We take copyright issues very seriously and encourage copyright holders to contact us if they have any objections about specific videos—we will cooperate with them to take down any infringing content immediately.
Oikeudenhaltijalle homma on piis of keik - sen kun vain toimii ohjeiden mukaan: (Copyright Infringement Notification)
1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.
3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material.
4. Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.
5. A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
